includes a Convention Registration Form #4 (3 ply); a Proxy Form #5; a

The deadline for Convention Registration of March 13, 2002 is fast
approaching.  As you know the Convention will be held at the Riviera
Hotel in Palm Springs, CA, May 13 - 15, 2002.

For advance information and to encourage your attendance, here are the
highlights of the Convention this year which will include a welcoming by Host

our own Robert Davidson, President, Palomar Chapter #455; an Open Forum

Federation Officers wherein attendees may ask any questions related to NARFE,
National Legislation or State Legislation; an Annual Report by our Region VIII

Judy Park; a presentation on a new State Bill, AB 1887 (Income Tax exclusion

The convention will officially be called to order at 12 noon on Monday, May 13
and will adjourns at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.  The installation of officers,
banquet and entertainment will commence at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15.

The next date that is fast approaching is the deadline for nominees for
"Convention Committees",  February 28, 2002.  The five (5) Convention
committees and one (1) Convention Team are: Credentials, Ballot & Tellers,
General Resolutions, National Bylaws, Rules and Sergeant-At-Arms Team.
These committees function only during the convention.  PLEASE NOTE:  If you
missed getting your name on the Convention Committee Nominees Form, you can
still volunteer by e-mail: LDZajac@aol.com (giving your name, address, and phone
number) to your Federation President, Lea Zajac.

Also the deadline for nominees for "Standing Committees" is not far behind,
March 22, 2002.  These eight (8) committees function throughout the year, starting
July 1, 2002 and concluding on June 30, 2003.  The committees are: National
Legislation, State Legislation, Constitution & Bylaws, Service, Audit, Nominating,
Public Relations and Convention City.  Those of you who are on one of these
committees for 2001/2002 are not automatically assigned again for next year.
So, if you would like to serve again, you need to re-volunteer!  Again, if you miss
getting your name on the Standing Committee Nominees form, you can still
volunteer by e-mail: LDZajac@aol.com  giving your name, address and phone
number) to your Federation President, Lea Zajac.

The bottom line is that we need lots of volunteers, particularly for Convention
Committees.  So I ask you to please consider volunteering.  You may find it an
interesting and fun experience.  Also talk to your peers who are not on-line and
tell them to rush out and sign up for a committee.  Rushing out is as simple as
calling your Federation President on the phone 707-644-7565.  Thank you for your
consideration.

Hope to see you all at the Palm Springs Convention!

           Till next time ...
Your California Federation President, Lea Zajac
