NARFE Members of California:
CSRS OR FERS: Many members think that NARFE supports federal
retirees
under the "Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS)" but has little or
nothing
to offer federal retirees under the relatively new "Federal Employees
Retirement System (FERS)". NOT SO!!
NARFE protects and promotes the following for both CSRS
and FERS
retirees:
a) The Civil Service
Retirement & Disability Trust Fund,
which both
CSRS and FERS retirees depend upon for their retirement annuities.
b) Social Security, the
government's social insurance program
which
provides basic retirement and disability income to the majority of CSRS
and
all of FERS retirees.
c) The Federal Employees
Health Benefits Program (FEHBP),
which
provides health insurance for CSRS and FERS enrollees and their family
members.
d) Medicare, which offers
basic, first-payer health insurance
coverage
to
almost all CSRS and FERS retirees after age 65.
e) The Federal Employees
Group Life Insurance Program, which
offers
affordable life insurance to all CSRS and FERS workers and retirees.
f) The Federal Long-Term
Care Insurance Program, which will
make
long-term care insurance accessible to CSRS and FERS employees,
retirees and
family members.
g) The Federal Thrift
Savings Plan, which allows both CSRS
and FERS
employees to participate in a tax-deferred personal retirement savings
program.
CSRS and FERS employees, retirees and survivors can get
help/assistance
from NARFE on any subject matter pertaining to Federal employees,
retirees or
survivor annuitants.
