NARFE Members of California:

As I travel throughout the State and visit the chapters, I note that many members are not aware of what the Federation Executive Board is doing for the Federation nor, in many cases, what National Headquarters is doing or proposing for our organization.

Some of you may remember Franklin Delano Roosevelt's "Fireside Chats" wherein he talked to public citizens in a relaxed atmosphere on radio. I won't have access to radio or TV, but I would like to start a series of articles on electronic mail in order to inform as many members as possible of events, happenings and proposals in an informal manner.

It is my intent to publish several short articles each month on the NARFE-NET.  I recognize that some of what I publish may be redundant for those members who consciously read "Retirement Life" magazine and other NARFE published materials, but some of what I intend to publish may not
be found elsewhere. 

Having said the above, here goes the First Issue of Points to Ponder.

THE FEDERATION:  There seems to be a mystic belief that the Federation Officers are "The Federation".  "The Federation" is the 103 Chapters in California -- each Chapter member is a part of the Federation.  
The Federation Executive Board is composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Immediate Past President and ten (10) District Vice Presidents; all of whom were elected by the members of the 103 Chapters to represent the Chapters to Congress and State Legislators and
to conduct the business of the Federation as designated by the Chapters.
